Over 39,000 years ago, in the territory of Castel Morrone, karst sinkholes were formed, one of the rarest and most interesting geological phenomena at the national level. Sinkholes are erosion forms resulting from the slow dissolution of rocks by rainwater. These are commonly known as the Comola Grande and the Comola Piccola, already mentioned in a document from 1527. The Comola Grande is easily accessible via a pathway and is visible due to its grandeur, making it the largest collapse sinkhole in Italy.
